Ecommerce Website Development in Newton: challenges we solve

A catalog is where the sale is won.
Or quietly lost.

Specialty retail sells on detail. We build product pages that carry materials, dimensions, care and lead time, so a careful buyer can commit.

Starting a store from scratch?

Catalog structure first. Checkout second. Launch when both hold.

People browse, then leave empty-handed?

Clearer options. Honest stock. Fewer dead ends.

Struggling with store integrations?

Stock, orders, accounting and shipping kept in step.

Inconsistent mobile shopping experience?

Mobile pages that stay readable at arm’s length.

The product media pipeline

Photography is usually the largest content cost in a shop and the least organised. It arrives as a folder of files named after camera settings, and somebody spends a week matching them to products.

Start with a shot list. For each product type, decide what images are mandatory: front, back, detail, scale, in use. Consistency matters more than artistry here. A grid where one product is shot on white and the next on wood looks broken even when both photos are good.

File names are the link between studio and shop. Name by product code, then by position. A folder named this way imports itself. A folder named after the camera does not, and the cost is manual work per product, every time.

Alt text is written once, by a person. It describes the product, not the page, and it serves shoppers using a screen reader as well as search. Generated alt text that repeats the product name adds nothing.

Processing belongs to the system, not the photographer. One high-resolution master per image, resized and converted on upload. Sending a designer to export six sizes by hand guarantees the day nobody does it.

Video and interactive views are worth the effort where they answer a real question: how big is it, how does it move, what is it like inside. Elsewhere they cost page weight for decoration.

Two rules save the most time later. Keep the masters somewhere the shop is not the only copy. And decide what happens to media when a product is discontinued, because a shop that never deletes anything grows a library nobody can search.

Colour is the quiet failure. A jacket photographed under studio light and a jacket photographed at a supplier's warehouse are two different colours on the same page, and the difference comes back as returns. Fix it at the source with a reference card in the shot, and check the exported files on a calibrated screen before they reach the shop.

Supplier images need a rule of their own. They arrive at odd sizes, with logos burned in, sometimes with rights that stop at print. Decide once whether you use them, crop them, or shoot your own, and record the answer per supplier. The alternative is a catalogue where every third product looks borrowed, because it was.

We already take orders by phone. What would a store add?
Phone orders hold up until two people want the same item.
A catalog answers the questions you currently answer by hand. Sizes, materials, stock, lead time. The buyer reads, decides and orders without waiting for a reply.
Considered purchases need detail. Give people enough to choose and fewer baskets stall at the last step.

What a specialty catalog must get right

Cross-browser. Fully responsive.
Variants behave predictably. Size, colour and finish change price and stock without reloading the page or dropping the basket.
Mobile-ready layout
Quick load times
Business logic first
Photography and copy carry the weight. Each page gives a buyer enough to choose without asking you first.
Conversion-focused structure
Business-driven
Integrations
Stock, orders and accounting stay on one chain — from the shelf to the invoice.
Stable performance
Ready for marketing
Support & growth
After launch we watch which pages convert, tighten the weak ones and extend the catalog as the range grows.
