WordPress persists because editing is genuinely delegable — a communications officer changes a page without a deployment, and successors already know the interface. Redirects are generated from a path map written before cutover, media libraries and content relationships are verified after transfer, and staging holds the full data set so review is done against real content. For institutions with deep archives, past exhibitions and seasons are checked item by item, since those pages carry most of the accumulated search value.
An unmaintained WordPress install does not hold its position, it decays: plugins fall out of support, a vulnerability is disclosed, and the gap between disclosure and exploitation is short. Regular work therefore means updates on a defined cycle, monitoring against the installed inventory, and restore tests rather than backup reports.
