Industrial design lives inside manufacturing limits
A product drawing that ignores tooling is a picture. The interesting work sits where a form meets draft angles, wall thickness, assembly time and the cost of a mould. Those limits arrive early or they arrive late and expensively, and the difference is usually the second month of the project.
Talk to the factory before the form is fixed
Tooling decides more than taste. Whether a part can be moulded in one piece, where the parting line falls, which radii are free and which add a slide. Getting those answers from the plant while sketches are still cheap avoids the redesign that arrives after the quote comes back.

Design for the hands that will assemble it
Assembly time is a unit cost. Fasteners that need two tools, a cable route that requires a third hand, a cover that only fits one way round with no visual cue. Each adds seconds per unit and mistakes per thousand. Simplifying the sequence often saves more than the material choice.

Prototype the parts that carry risk
Not everything needs printing. The risky items are the ones with a moving fit, a sealing surface, a snap or an ergonomic claim. Those get physical prototypes at the earliest stage that can answer the question. Everything else can wait for the first tool sample.

Deliver documentation the supplier expects
A 3D model is not a handover. Manufacturers need dimensioned drawings, material and finish specifications, surface texture references and a statement of what is critical. Ambiguity gets resolved on the factory floor by whoever is closest, and rarely in the direction you wanted.
