Don’t chase
shelf appeal.
Build consistency that lasts.

We design with clarity, hierarchy, and handling in mind. If it doesn’t serve the product or the buyer, it doesn’t make the cut.

Customers can't tell
your products apart.

Clear variation and SKU logic make all the difference.

Too much text.
Too little space.

Smart hierarchy keeps
everything readable.

Looks great on screen.
Breaks in print.

Label design starts with materials, not mockups.

New size, new label,
new headache.

A flexible system means
no redesign every time.

Choosing label stock, adhesive and finish for the container

A label looks finished on screen. Then it meets the bottle. The surface curves, the glass is cold and wet from the filling line, and the shipping case rubs against it for a week.

Shape comes first. A cylinder bends a label in one direction only, and that is manageable. A tapered or rounded container bends it in two, and a flat design will wrinkle or lift at the edges. We ask for a physical sample early and wrap a test print around it.

Curvature also distorts the artwork. Text near the edge of a wrap-around label turns away from the viewer. Place the brand name and the key claim where the container faces the shelf, and keep small print away from the curve.

The material decides how long the label lasts. Paper is cheap and absorbs water. Film resists moisture and survives the fridge. Some products need a label that peels off cleanly for recycling, which changes the adhesive as well as the stock.

Conditions on the filling line matter. Condensation, oil or dust on the container stop adhesives from gripping. A label that passes on a clean sample can fail in production. The printer and the packer should both see the specification before the run.

Finishes interact with each other. Foil next to a matte varnish looks rich. Foil across a seam cracks. Embossing on a thin film can tear. We test combinations on the chosen material, rather than on the proof paper the printer used for approval.

Leave room for the codes the factory adds. Batch numbers and dates are often printed at the line, onto a clear area of the label. If the design fills that area, the code lands on top of the artwork.

Approve the label on the product, in the light where it will be sold. Screen proofs and flat prints hide most of the problems described here.

Why do our labels feel all over the place?
Because they weren't designed to work as a system.
Each one might work on its own — but side by side,
they compete. Inconsistent structure, unclear hierarchy, and styling gaps create noise instead of unity.
We design with the whole line in mind — so your labels fit the product and the system.

What make labels actually work?

Easy to spot. Easy to trust
Good labels are structured, then styled.
We design with spacing, typography, and product logic.

What does label design cost in Los Angeles?

Wine labels for Malibu Coast vineyards or craft beer brands in the Arts District often require multiple revisions and specialized die-cut work, which affects final pricing. We provide detailed quotes after understanding your product category and distribution goals.

How long does label design take in LA?

Most label design projects in Los Angeles take 2-4 weeks from kickoff to print-ready files. Cannabis brands needing California Bureau of Cannabis Control compliance verification may need an additional week for regulatory review. If you're launching at Natural Products Expo West in Anaheim or targeting initial placement at Erewhon Market locations, we can accommodate accelerated timelines. Rush projects for product launches in Venice or West Hollywood retail corridors are possible with advance notice and may incur expedited fees.

Which LA industries need custom label design most?

Los Angeles has massive demand from cannabis dispensaries (over 180 licensed retailers citywide), craft beverage makers in Vernon's industrial corridor, and beauty brands in the Fashion District. The city's 1,400+ food manufacturers also require FDA-compliant nutrition labels. We've designed for kombucha brands in Silver Lake, CBD wellness products in Culver City, and specialty foods targeting the Grand Central Market demographic. Entertainment industry clients often need limited-edition labels for promotional merchandise and gift sets distributed through Studio City production offices.

What makes product labels successful in competitive markets?

Successful labels balance visual hierarchy with regulatory compliance and shelf differentiation. Typography must remain legible at typical retail viewing distances while color choices need to perform under various lighting conditions from boutique shops to big-box stores. We conduct competitive audits to ensure your label stands out in crowded categories. For products targeting Los Angeles retailers known for curated selections, premium finishes like foil stamping or embossing create tactile differentiation. Clear ingredient hierarchies and benefit-driven messaging convert browsers into buyers at point of sale.

Do you handle label printing coordination or just design?

We deliver print-ready files with proper bleed, color specifications, and die-cut templates but connect Los Angeles clients with vetted local printers when requested. Many of our clients work with facilities in Vernon or City of Industry for cost efficiency and quick turnarounds. We provide press-check support to ensure color accuracy matches approved designs. For smaller runs or specialty materials like sustainable stock popular with LA's eco-conscious consumers, we recommend partners experienced with boutique production. Our files work seamlessly with any commercial printer meeting industry standards.

Can labels be designed for multiple product sizes simultaneously?

Absolutely — scalable label systems maintain brand consistency across different SKUs and container formats. We create master design frameworks that adapt to various bottle sizes, jar dimensions, or pouch formats while preserving visual identity. This approach works especially well for Los Angeles beverage brands offering both retail bottles and kegs, or cannabis companies with flower jars, pre-roll tubes, and edibles tins. Modular design elements allow you to introduce new product lines without complete redesigns, reducing long-term costs while building recognizable shelf presence in markets from Downtown LA to Pasadena.

How does your design process work from start to finish?

Our process begins with a discovery call to understand your product, target retailers, and competitors in your category. We then provide 2-3 initial concept directions exploring different visual strategies and messaging hierarchies. After you select a direction, we refine typography, colors, and layout through two revision rounds. You receive final files in multiple formats including print-ready PDFs, editable source files, and digital mockups for e-commerce use. Throughout the project, we maintain clear communication via your preferred channels and provide detailed explanations for design decisions that impact shelf performance and regulatory compliance.

What support do you provide after label designs are delivered?

We include 30 days of complimentary minor revisions after final file delivery for adjustments like updated contact information or small text changes. If you expand into new retail channels or reformulate products, we offer ongoing design support at reduced rates for existing clients. Many Los Angeles businesses return when launching seasonal editions or limited releases — we maintain your brand files and can quickly produce label variations. We also provide guidance if printers have technical questions about file specifications or if you need to adapt labels for different substrates or application methods down the line.
